LEGO Marvel's 2027 rumours name a What If...? character

LEGO Marvel's list of rumoured 2027 sets names a character only seen in What If...?, suggesting that the theme will return to the series after its end in 2024.

One of the LEGO Marvel sets now rumoured for January 2027 is the 814-piece 67005 Strange Supreme Sanctum, specifically using the name of a What If...? character as the title of the set. It's only a rumour for now, and it wouldn't be surprising to see this particular change, given that What If...? came to a close in 2024.

Strange Supreme is a central character across the first two seasons of What If...?, though his Sanctum Infinitum isn't exactly suitable for a LEGO set. The expansive space is designed to hold prisoners and artefacts before sacrificing them to remake his original universe. As such, there's no central space that would be easily depicted as a LEGO model.

Given the fact that Strange Supreme is also now (essentially) deceased, his return in future Marvel projects is unlikely. Marvel may reuse the name for another character, but such instances are rare. There was also a Supreme Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with a sanctum that would be much more easily made into a LEGO model.

The Earth-838 Sanctum features a statue paying tribute to Supreme Strange outside, as well as a building covered in greenery. It's inherently better-positioned to be recreated as a LEGO model. There's just one problem: Supreme Strange is also deceased.

Overall, 67005 Strange Supreme Sanctum has become one of the most perplexing sets in the rumoured LEGO Marvel January 2027 list. Whether the set names the incorrect character, or whether Strange Supreme will find a way to return in a future Marvel project has yet to be confirmed.
